Amazon PPC Automation Migration Checklist
Migrate Amazon PPC tools with campaign inventories, one active writer, read-only comparison, a bounded cutover and verified rollback.
The safest PPC migration has one active writer for each campaign and a reversible cutover. Running two tools against the same bids is not a clean experiment: one can overwrite the other and make both results uninterpretable.
Before connecting the replacement
Export the existing campaign structure, current bids, budgets, placements, negatives and automation rules. Record the account, marketplace, currency and export time. Keep a list of manual exceptions such as launch campaigns, promotions and products with limited stock.
Confirm which entities the existing contract bills for, how cancellation works and how to export history. Advertising spend and software fees are separate. Check whether disconnecting the tool stops scheduled actions or merely removes your access to its interface.
Compare in read-only mode
Let the incumbent retain write ownership while the replacement imports reports or produces proposals. Confirm that the replacement can distinguish incomplete data from zero, and compare like-for-like sales definitions. Amazon attribution varies by metric and advertiser type, so retain report definitions alongside the exports. Amazon conversion metrics.
Investigate differences in recommendations before changing ownership. Useful questions include: Was the sales window mature? Did the two systems use different margin targets? Did one include placement adjustments or a recent price change? A different proposal is not proof that either system is better.
Use a bounded cutover
- Select a small, representative campaign group with manageable spend. Exclude an imminent promotion if it would obscure the comparison.
- Disable the incumbent's writes for that exact scope and confirm no scheduled rule still owns it.
- Read current provider settings and compare them with the saved snapshot.
- Enable only the required action type in the replacement, such as reviewed bid changes.
- Submit a bounded approved change and read back its result in Amazon.
- Expand only after execution, data quality and operating ownership work as intended.
Parallel operation is acceptable across non-overlapping campaign scopes, or when one tool is strictly read-only. Keep the ownership list explicit.
Copy this cutover checklist
Paste the tab-separated text into a spreadsheet and replace the example campaign label. It is a manual checklist, not an Amazon bulk-upload file.

For each row, attach the snapshot location and cutover time in your internal notes. Do not put API credentials into the sheet.
Define rollback before the first write
Stop further replacement actions first. Reconcile any accepted or unknown submissions before enabling the old writer. Restore only settings that belong to the migration and have not since been intentionally changed. Reconnecting the old tool without checking its queued actions can recreate the original conflict.
Review operation and performance separately
Operational acceptance means the correct scope was changed once, the provider value matches, alerts reach an owner and exports remain available. Performance review comes after a comparable observation period matures. Track contribution after ad spend and sales as well as ACoS; migration alone does not guarantee improvement.
How long should the comparison run?
Long enough to cover the relevant attribution delay and useful traffic for your account. A fixed two-week trial may establish connectivity while leaving performance uncertain. Decide whether that uncertainty is affordable before widening scope.
